Chromosphere spicules

WebJul 29, 2004 · Spicules are dynamic jets propelled upwards (at speeds of ∼20 km s-1) from the solar ‘surface’ (photosphere) into the magnetized low atmosphere of the Sun1,2,3. WebThe chromosphere is a thin layer of plasma that lies between the Sun’s visible surface (the photosphere) and the corona (the Sun’s upper atmosphere). It extends for at least 2,000 km (1,200 mi.) above the surface. The chromosphere is normally hidden from our view; its light is drowned out by the brilliance of the underlying photosphere.
