The word hello does not match the text hello, world. For a pattern to match a string, two things must be true: Every character in the pattern must match the string. WebSuccessively matches each case label against the value of the string variable. The string is command and file name expanded first. Use the pattern-matching characters *, ?, and [ . . . ] in the case labels, which are variable-expanded. If none of the labels match before a default label is found, the execution begins after the default label.
